Hi!

I'm wondering if there is a way to control the keyboard backlight from the OS.

I'm currently running Fedora 43 with GNOME. When I change the backlight level using the F keys, I get no feedback from the OS on screen. And no command I have tried seems to work to change the backlight level.

I tried installing the slimbook-keyboard-dkms but when loading the modprobe, it couldn't find the appropriate hardware on my system. The dkms seems to be for Clevo devices, and I suspect my ProX is a TongFang model.

Any help would be much appreciated!

I want to clarify:

I am able to change the backlight via the F buttons. When I press backlight plus (F7), the keyboard backlight gets brighter, and when I press backlight minus (F6), the keyboard backlight gets darker. But there is no notification on the screen, and there is no control of the backlight from the OS, as far as I can tell. I'd love to integrate the control of the backlight into the OS!

Good morning nosen,

The ProX 5700U uses QC71/Tongfang for its EC, not Clevo
Installing slimbook-qc71-kmod should let you use the driver, after the driver is loaded it should emit a code that the Desktop Environment picks up to show the backlight change notification

Regards,

Thank you!

I followed the instructions listed here and installed slimbook service and kmod (but i entered 43 instead of 42): https://slimbook.com/en/blog/guides-2/post/slimbook-service-364

And it installed just fine, and now a little symbol appears when I change the keyboard backlight! Now I just need to figure out how to control the backlight from the OS. You have put me on a good track!
