Recent BIOS update seems to break charging when the CPU is under heavyload.

Good morning,

I've recently updated to the most current BIOS for my laptop: KPT-W042-FP8-OSLI-0.16. Although I am happy it fixed the sleep issues and some other ACPI issues. It seems that now when I try to run something heavy like the XGBoost algorithm, which takes 20GB of RAM and uses all cores it can, while plugged in to the charger the laptop enters in an intermittent state of charging -> not charging -> discharging and repeat after a while.

I've tried to replicate this issue under my Arch installation and on the default Slimbook OS distro, the results were the same. What could be the issue?

Best Regards

PS:  Has anyone also experience this behavior?

Hi

The operating modes of Slimbook laptops significantly increase the CPU's TDP, and I suspect that the charger isn't powerful enough to charge the battery at that point.

Perhaps I should try higher wattage chargers, but I'm not an expert on the subject.

Hi Ethan,

Thanks for pointing that out, it could very likely be the reason for the behavior I am seeing. Regarding the charger, I am already using the 100W Slimbook issued charger for this laptop, and I am not sure if the laptop will support a higher wattage. So I might need to charge the laptop until the point where is using the the AC directly to squeeze the max performance.

Best Regards.
