Setting battery charge limits on the flight on EVO 15 AMD

Avatar

Hi all,

I just got my new Evo 15 AMD up and running with Fedora and it's working great.

I even set up a battery charge limit in the Bios and it's also working fine. However it would be very handy to be able to tweak the limits on the flight at the OS level. This is what I use to do with my work laptop (Lenovo T14) using TLP which works like a breeze.

Is there a way to get the same on the Evo?

If not, is there any plan to have TLP (or a similar OS tool) supported in the near future?

Thanks

Good morning, sgumz
Currently we don't have a way to set up battery limitations at OS level, as TLP support with our modern models of laptops do not work fully and they're unsupported by TLP
The only way to limit the battery currently is through the BIOS

Until a driver for the QC71 based laptops that support several features such as battery limits and other TLP configurable features gets done, there's no current timeline to support battery limits at OS level

We always try to improve support for our laptops in these kind of things, but at its own pace

Hi Samanta,

Thanks for your reply.

Is there any active development to bring this driver in the main linux kernel?
Based on what I found online it seems that the development is currently fragmented and there isn't a community supporting it.

Thanks

Luca

Good morning, sgurnz

We intend to bring the QC71 drive to the kernel upstream, progress is slow at the moment but on the driver we ship with our models, we always try first to support the minimum features of our laptops and then improve from there on extra features such as the ones you mentioned of putting a limit on battery level at OS level
