Screen freezes randomly

Avatar

Sometimes my screen randomly freezes, I can not move the mouse and pressing the keys also doesn't do anything, though the sound keeps playing. When this happens I have to turn the laptop off with the power button and turn it on again. Often the screen will freeze again some time after restarting, unless I let the laptop rest for a minute.

The ventilations are not blocked.

It happens even when I am not doing any complicated tasks.

Good morning
This seems like the graphics driver crashed, you could use the `amdgpu.gpu_recovery=1` to recover from amdgpu crashes
In any case, I ask you to confirm if you have these kernel parameters/packages: amdgpu.dcdebugmask=0x610 / slimbook-grub-fix-psr
As this parameter fixes stability issues by disabling PSR, which is known to be prone to failure

Hi Samanta,

Thank you for the quick answer. I have set amdgpu.gpu_recovery to 1, hopefully this will fix the issue.

I do not have the slimbook-grub-fix-psr package and the parameter amdgpu.dcdebugmask is set to 0.

Best,

David

Hey,
Do note that by not having the package or the parameter, the device's graphics driver might still crash even if the gpu_recovery parameter restarts the driver, so we recommend it regardless of having amdgpu.gpu_recovery or not
